Overview
Chinchero, Moray & Maras Salt Mines Tour, are located in the central area of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Day 1
Day 01: Chinchero – Moray – Salt Mines Guided Tour
The tour begins with hotel pick-up at 08:30 a.m. in our comfortable mini van. First, we will visit the Chinchero artisanal textile center, where you can observe how alpaca wool is dyed, as well as the traditional processes of weaving and spinning sweaters, chullos, and other textiles. All of these activities are handcrafted by local artisan women, preserving centuries-old techniques.
Next, we will head to the archaeological site of Moray, an extraordinary agricultural center where you can admire Inca terraces built with incredible engineering and intelligence. These terraces were designed to create microclimates suitable for different crops, showcasing the ingenuity of Inca agriculture.
Finally, our tour concludes at the Maras Salt Mines (Salineras), where more than 3,000 salt water wells emerge from a nearby mountain. These wells are still operational and well-preserved, and salt remains the main source of income for the local population. For conservation purposes, visitors can explore the site from strategic viewpoints, just like at Moray.
At the end of the tour, we return to Cusco, arriving at approximately 2:30 p.m., having experienced a full day of culture, history, and stunning landscapes in the Sacred Valley.
