Overview
Manu Reserved Zone 6 days, will guaranteed to see the biodibersity that exists in the deepest part of our amazon jungle, since, we will visit the reserved zone of the jungle ( Manu biosphere reserve) in this tour we offer activities such as , bird watching, jaguar search, caimans search, otters search, nocturnal walks, jungle treks, survival classes, visit to the lagoons, After 6 days trip we will return to Cusco by the same route as we went to the Manu National Park.
NOTE: The program includes several hours of trips in our vehicle and motorized boat, and due to the uncontrollable forces of nature, the program may be subject to change at any time during the trip some times without notice.
Day 1
Day 01: Cusco – Paraiso Lodge
Firstly, we will pick you up in Cusco very early in the morning in our vehicle to start our Manu tours, crossing interesting valleys between the mountains of the Andes and picturesque rural communities, stopping in a colonial town of Paucartambo for our breakfast.
Then we will continue our Manu tours to Tres Cruces (Acjanaco (3800 m.a.s.l.) considered the highest point of our trip, likewise the national park begins, then a short hike to get a viewpoint also known as El balcón del Este, where we can appreciate a stunning viewpoint of the cloud forest, here your guide will explain the variety of biodiversity that we can appreciate on our trip. (Flora and Fauna).
Afterwards, we continue with our journey down the road, where we will make different stops to walk inside the cloud forest, to observe different species of birds such us hummingbirds and our national bird known as the cock of the rocks, and with a bit of luck we will appreciate the mating rituals of these birds, also we can see the howler monkeys with our HD telescope.
At the end of this walk, we will enjoy a delicious lunch on the side of the road, then we will continue our trip to Paraiso Lodge where you will be put it up in a private room, and finally dinner.
Day 2
Day 02: Paraiso Lodge – Boca Manu – Hummingbird Lodge
After breakfast, we travel to Atalaya port in our vehicle to take our motorboat, then along our travel boat we will observe the enormous diversity of bird species, such as herons, parakeets, macaws, vultures, oropendolas, among others before to reach our next lodge, after haven enjoyed the lunch at a special place with a stunning view in the middle of the jungle.
Once at our lodge, arriving approximately at 05:30 p.m. we will put you up in a private lodge, and a well deserved rest after several hours of travel by motorboat, shower and dinner.
Afterwards, our Manu tours and the nocturnal jungle awaits us for a night walk to see nocturnal creatures such insects, spiders, scorpions, snakes, frogs and with litle luck we will appreciate some nocturnal mammal.
Day 3
Day 03: Hummingbird Lodge – Casa Machiguenga
Our Manu tours start again, in the morning we depart our Lodge, brief stop at the Limonal ranger station to present our permits, we will travel for about five hours upriver until we reach our next lodge and during the trip we will have the opportunity to see birds (Herons, egrets, Orinoco geese, terns and skimmers), turtles and black and white caimans that sunbathe on the riverbanks, and perch during the day on trunks and dry bushes and there would also be the possibility of encountering a jaguar sunbathing or drinking water.
We will also see some species of primates on this river trip, possibly red howler monkeys or squirrel monkeys. After having lunch by the river, we will arrive at “Casa Machiguenga Lodge”
Casa Machiguenga lodge:
It is located on the shores of Cocha Salvador Lake, the lodge is managed by the Machiguenga community, there are many interesting trails around the lodge where Machiguenga, as locals, guide the tours.
In the afternoon we will be spending the afternoon exploring some interesting trails on this pristine Amazon rainforest area then we will be visiting the Cocha Otorongo lake, which house a 20 meters high observation tower where you will have a panoramic view of the lake and to see small groups of giants otters and birds, and finally return to the lodge and dinner.
At night we will go out in search of nocturnal creatures where the lakes are full of the shine of the eyes of the great black alligator and, if we are lucky, we can find different nocturnal mammals on the trails and without a doubt, the nocturnal noise of the tree frogs and insects in the forest is an experience not to forget.
Night at “Casa Machiguenga”, a rustic native-owned lodge, run by the Machiguenga themselves, room-temperature showers, and double rooms with mosquito nets, comfortable beds.
Day 4
Day 04: Casa Machiguenga – Cocha Salvador
After breakfast, we will spend the morning in Cocha Salvador lake on a floating wooden platform observing wild animals from the water where we can meet Agami Heron, Sungrebe and Brown Cappuchin monkeys that usually feed on fruits near the place.
We will also be able to observe the family of giant otters that live here, considered the largest freshwater carnivores in the world, they are still common only in Manu, having been hunted until almost completely extinct in most of their natural habitat, each animal consumes between 4 to 5 kilos of fish per day and can often be seen eating large fish in logs on the shore of the lake.
The rest of the day we will walk through different trails in the area in search of some of the 13 species of monkeys that are found here in the forest as well as different medicinal plants where the guide will explain their healing properties and the use that the people of the area give them place to cure different diseases.
It is also possible that we come across small groups of peccaries, a kind of wild boar that lives in this area. In the afternoon we will enjoy the sunset and rest at “Casa Machiguenga lodge”.
Day 5
Day 05: Casa Machiguenga – Palotoa Ecológical Reserve
This day after breakfast we will leave “Casa Machiguenga” and we will continue our trip around 4 hours down to the river of Boca Manu. The river trip may hold surprises and we’ll be attentive for any wildlife on the shores.
Leaving Boca Manu, we’ll head up to the “Madre de Dios River” for five more hours to our comfortable Palotoa Papaya Amazon lodge, getting lunch on the river bank.
The lodge nestles in the heart of the rainforest. The location makes it ideal for local conservation groups and bird watchers to set bases and explore the rainforest. After dinner, we will be doing a night tour to spot some nocturnal creatures here.
After dinner a night walk with your guide in search of nocturnal animals.
Day 6
Day 06: Palotoa Ecológical Reserve – Cusco
We will leave Palotoa Lodge early in the morning to arrive to the Port of Atalaya from here, we will take the van directly to Cusco passing through Cloud Forest and the Andes, arriving to Cusco at 17:30 p.m.
