Day 1

Day 01: Puerto Maldonado – Monkey Island – Night Activity

Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, we will pick you up from the bus station or airport and transfer you to our office. After a short briefing, we will continue by private transport to the boat pier. From there, we will travel by boat along the Madre de Dios River, enjoying beautiful rainforest scenery until we reach our lodge.

Once at the lodge, you will be welcomed with a refreshing tropical fruit juice. Afterward, we will escort you to your room for check-in and a short rest.

Later, we will begin our first guided jungle walk, where you will discover lush vegetation, including trees that are over 500 years old. Along the trail, you may spot a wide variety of wildlife such as parrots, toucans, macaws, monkeys, snakes, and colorful insects like butterflies.

Then, we will return to the lodge to enjoy a delicious lunch.

In the afternoon, we will visit Monkey Island, a fascinating area known for its diverse monkey population. Here, you can observe species such as capuchin monkeys, tamarins, and squirrel monkeys. Often, some of them approach visitors closely, and you may even have the chance to feed them under the guide’s supervision.

After sunset, we will head out on an exciting night caiman search along the banks of the Madre de Dios River. For this activity, you will need a flashlight. With some luck, we may also spot the capybara, the world’s largest rodent, which can weigh up to 60 kilograms and is related to the Peruvian cuy.

Finally, we will return to the lodge for dinner and spend the night surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the Amazon rainforest.

Day 2

Day 02: Sandoval lake (Full Exploring) – Night Walk

After breakfast, we will take a short boat ride to the entrance of Lake Sandoval. Once there, after checking in at the checkpoint, we will begin a 3-kilometer (approximately 2-mile) walk through the rainforest to reach Lake Sandoval, one of the largest lakes in the Tambopata National Reserve and a natural habitat for piranhas.

Along the way, you will enjoy the rich Amazon scenery. Upon arrival, our guide will prepare a rowing boat, allowing us to quietly navigate the lake and observe a wide variety of wildlife. During this peaceful experience, you may spot numerous bird species such as hoatzins, cormorants, jacanas, puma herons, and eagles, as well as mammals including howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, black capuchins, tamarins, and sloths.

With some luck, we may encounter a family of giant river otters, which can grow to nearly two meters long and are currently endangered. Additionally, the lake is home to one of the largest caimans ever recorded, measuring over four meters in length.

After exploring the lake, we will enjoy lunch either on the lakeshore or back at the lodge. Optionally, you may take a refreshing swim in the lake, especially welcome due to the warm Amazon climate.

In the afternoon, we will visit a native family, where you will have the opportunity to learn traditional hunting techniques, basket weaving using jungle leaves, and other ancestral skills.

Finally, in the evening after dinner, we will embark on a guided night walk, during which you will discover the fascinating world of nocturnal insects, amphibians, reptiles, and other wildlife, making for a memorable end to the day in the Amazon rainforest.

Dinner and rest.

Day 3

Day 03: An adventurous day

Morning in the jungle begins with an unforgettable experience on the Canopy Walkway, which allows us to explore the rainforest from a completely different perspective. At approximately 30 meters (98 feet) above the ground, the hanging bridges offer a unique opportunity to admire the lush jungle canopy and enjoy panoramic views of the Madre de Dios River.

From the observation platforms, you may spot a wide variety of bird species such as toucans, macaws, tanagers, orioles, and many more. Without a doubt, this elevated walk provides one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in the Amazon rainforest.

After this experience and breakfast, we will prepare for an activity filled with adrenaline. Next, we will enjoy an exciting zip-line adventure, soaring through the treetops at more than 30 meters high. Before starting, a professional instructor will provide a safety briefing and explain how to properly use the harness and equipment. As you glide through the trees, you will feel the thrill of flying above the jungle. The zip-line system is supported by two steel cables, each capable of holding over three tons, ensuring maximum safety. Afterward, we will return to the lodge for lunch and a well-deserved rest.

In the afternoon, the adventure continues with a kayaking excursion across the Madre de Dios River. Along the way, you will be able to enjoy the stunning Amazonian sunset, reflecting beautiful colors across the water.

Finally, we will try traditional artisanal fishing in the river. With a bit of patience, you may catch fish species such as catfish, bringing a perfect end to an action-packed day in the Amazon jungle.

Day 4

Day 04: Parakeet Clay Lick – Return to Puerto Maldonado

On the fourth and final day of our Tambopata Tour, we will start very early in the morning at 04:00 a.m.. First, you will embark on a one-and-a-half-hour boat journey along the river to visit the Parakeet Clay Lick, one of the most impressive wildlife spectacles in the Amazon.

During the boat ride, you will have the chance to observe various animals and birds along the riverbanks as the jungle comes to life. Upon arrival, you will witness a spectacular natural display, as dozens of parakeets gather to feed on the mineral-rich clay, filling the sky with color and sound.

After this unforgettable experience, we will return to the lodge, arriving around 07:00 a.m. to enjoy breakfast.

Later in the morning, we will venture along the riverbanks for a fishing activity, where you can try to catch local fish and, with a bit of luck, even piranhas.

After lunch, we will check out of the lodge and begin our return journey by boat to Puerto Maldonado. Once at the dock, our staff will be waiting to transfer you to our office and then to the airport or bus terminal, marking the end of an unforgettable Tambopata jungle adventure.
