Overview
The community of Patacancha and its people still keep their culture alive today, one of the specialties of these descendants of the Incas is their textiles, their clothing, as is often the case with a series of community businesses, has totally striking colors.
When one is near the town, the visitor can feel a different atmosphere from the city, since there you can breathe pure air of nature that is very pleasant, the human presence adds the intensity of red and black that dominate the traditional dress, that is why the common name given to these Inca descendants, of “Huayruros”, because their clothes stand out in the eyes of the color of the seed of good luck.
The costumes are very beautiful and very colorful, their ponchos woven in different earth tones, chullos decorated with beads and buttons, embroidered frames, ribbons, braids, everything in Patacancha has the harmonic movement that the textile industry demands, composing a world of colors in which will make your visit unique and unforgettable.
Balls, looms, pots with boiling dyes, dye plants, raw fibers, all this attracts the attention of a tourist who visits it, it will really come out of the best to learn about their customs and traditions of said town, an experiential tourism.
Day 1
Day 01: Cusco – Patacancha Community – Tinkay or Chuyay of Alpaca – Textile and weaving workshop – Demonstration of agriculture
The staff of our agency will pick you up from your respective hotel in Cusco at 7:00 a.m., we will go to the Sacred Valley of the Incas along the Chinchero route where we will make a stop at the Raqchi viewpoint to appreciate part of the Sacred Valley.
At 10:00 am. Approximately we will arrive at our destination the community of Patacancha where the villagers will be waiting for you with a warm welcome with music, dances, bouquets of flowers and a delicious coca tea to avoid altitude sickness, later installation in our rooms before starting our activities.
Once ready, we will provide you with the typical costumes so that you can dress as the residents of the community do today, and start with our Andean adventure experience at more than 4,600 meters above sea level!
Activity 01: “Tinkay or Chuyay de Alpaca”: It is a small ceremony where the inhabitants thank the Andean deities, ask for better production and also that their animals are protected from any night and day danger. This ceremony also consists of a traditional marriage between species of llamas and alpacas, in which it will be accompanied by folk music and typical dance, drink, a tradition where today it is still alive in the high Andean communities of the Cusco regions. .
At the end of this ceremony, we will return to our local home for lunch. This time our lunch will be something different that perhaps you have never tried, “La Watia or Huatia”, a typical dish from the Andean region currently being consumed in Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile.
The peculiarity of this dish is that it is made in an artisanal oven of remains of hardened earth assembled in the form of a dome with stones at the base and that is heated with firewood to later bury various ingredients, such as potatoes, geese, broad beans, beef seasoned with aromatic local herbs such as Huacatay, etc. which makes the flavor unique, and of course accompanied with its rich Andean chili or Uchucuta made from aromatic herbs of the place and a very hot digestive mate.
After lunch we rest and then we will continue with our following activities:
Activity 02: “Textile workshop, weaving”: In this activity we will have the opportunity to learn traditional techniques where you will learn the art of weaving, dyeing wool, preparing your materials, extracting wool, and extracting of the colors of the natural dyes of different leaves, seeds, plants, flowers, even insects (Everything works, as long as you get a new color).
Once they have the threads with the desired colors, they are placed on the loom or awana, where the designs are made.
Activity 03: “Demonstration of agriculture”: This activity allows us to learn the activities and ancestral techniques carried out by the inhabitants of the community of Patacancha, we can also see their tools and even be part of these activities in case the weather is very favorable to be able to visit their farmland and carry out some sowing or harvesting activity.

Day 2
Day 02: Ceremonial Payment to Mother Earth – Cusco
A nutritious breakfast in the house of the family that will host us, this breakfast is prepared based on Andean cereals such as quiwicha, cañihua and toasted corn. Later we will make a trip of about 30 minutes to carry out our next activity, which is the payment to our Mother Earth, “La Pachamama”, near a beautiful waterfall from the valleys of Lares.
Activity 04: “Ceremonial Payment to Mother Earth”: Today we will get to know the mystical side of the Patacancha community. The payment to the land is a tradition that has passed from generation to generation to the present day since the time of the Incas.
They had a very close relationship with the elements of nature with which they lived: the rain, the mountains (which they called Apus), the sun, and of course the earth.
The earth was and is still considered a feminine element, since the production of food in agriculture was related to fertility. To give thanks for each year’s harvest, the Andean man made an offering based on his solid system of reciprocity, the land provided them with food and protection and they offered him the best of their goods.
At the end of this ceremony, return to our local home to enjoy another typical lunch, and finally return to the city of Cusco, and on the way back we can make stops at different points in the Sacred Valley, to take pictures, and thus be able to remember our journey through the land of the Incas.
